Graduation

Class of 2024

April 3, 2024

Seniors and Families,

Congratulations! The Class of 2024 graduation ceremony is quickly approaching. As of today, seniors have 29 more days of school left. On Saturday, May 18th, students will participate in the DHS Commencement Ceremony, beginning with a walk through the staff gauntlet at 5:30 pm. Our plan is to hold the ceremony outside on the football field. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Main Gymnasium at De Soto High School with limited attendance.

The next six weeks are an exciting time for our senior students and families; however, we recognize the end of a student’s high school experience can also feel stressful. One of the best ways to alleviate stress is to successfully address any necessary tasks and plan for upcoming events. This letter is intended to provide essential information as you prepare for your final few weeks as a De Soto Wildcat.

By April 12th:

  • Activity Patches and Honor Cord Orders Due - Check skyward emails for detailed information regarding honor cords and activity patches for the graduation stole. The deadline to order is April 12th. No other customization of the cap, gown, or other regalia will be allowed at the graduation ceremony. Here is the link to order a patch or honor cord: https://2nywen7nfi9.typeform.com/to/y9sftsgf

Friday, May 10th:

  • Cap and Gown Pick-up - Caps, gowns, stoles, patches, and honor cords will be delivered and distributed during lunch in the Union on Friday, May 10th. If you cannot pick these items up during this time, you can pick them up from the Main Office at DHS from Monday, May 13th through Wednesday, May 15th.
  • Senior Exit Form Pick-Up – Seniors are required to complete an exit form. The Senior Exit Form can be picked up during cap and gown pick-up. To receive guest tickets (for possible indoor ceremony) and your diploma on Saturday, May 18th, the form needs to be completed and turned in to Student Services before the deadline: 3:30pm, Wednesday, May 15th. Diplomas will not be issued without this completed form being turned into Student Services.

Friday, May 10th - Through Wednesday, May 15th:

  • Senior Final Exams – The final exam schedule can be viewed on our website. Seniors are expected to attend and complete all academic requirements (including taking your final exam) based on your second semester course schedule.
  • The Skip-a-Final form was released on May 3rd. The deadline for turning in the completed form to the main office is Thursday, May 9th, at 3:00PM. If a senior student qualifies for Skip-a-final, they are excused from attending the block of the final exam in which they qualify. Students must enter and exit the building through the attendance office if they are arriving/leaving during the school day. If a senior student qualifies to skip all finals, they cannot be on campus until the end of the school day, or as part of an official school activity.

Senior Class Schedule

1/3/24

Dear Graduating Senior and Parent/Guardian,

As we put the holiday season behind us and prepare for the second semester, we are reminded just how quickly time passes. The month of May is not as far off as it may seem, and we want to share information with you regarding the Class of 2024 graduation ceremony.

As you are aware, the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2024 is scheduled to take place on May 18, 2024. Our current plan is to have the ceremony at the De Soto High School stadium. If we can hold the ceremony outside, we will not need to limit attendance or require tickets. If inclement weather is possible, we will have the ceremony in the Main Gymnasium at De Soto High School. If inside, we will need to limit attendance, and each student will be provided with 7 tickets. The ceremony will also be live-streamed. The decision will be made and communicated 24 hours before the scheduled start of the ceremony.

The students will begin walking the gauntlet at 5:30 PM, with the ceremony scheduled to begin immediately after – approximately 6:00 PM. This change from previous years will allow our senior swimmers the ability to participate in both the Kansas State Swim meet and our graduation ceremony.

As in the past, De Soto High School views the graduation ceremony as a time to collectively recognize our seniors for what they have accomplished as students at DHS. Students will not be allowed to wear regalia celebrating accomplishments outside DHS or recognizing post-secondary plans; however, similar to last year, we will allow students to customize their stole with the logos of official DHS activities they participated in while a student at DHS. Look for more information in February.

The Senior Schedule for May 2024 is attached to this email. Please feel free to reach out if you have questions.

Thank you,

Sam Ruff

October 10, 2023

Dear Graduating Seniors and Parents/Guardians,

As the end of the first quarter is just a few weeks away, what has been a great 2023-2024 school year seems to be flying by. The month of May is not as far off as it may seem, and we want to share information with you regarding the Class of 2024 graduation ceremony.

The Class of 2024 graduation ceremony is scheduled to take place on May 18, 2024. We are excited to inform you that our current plan is to host the ceremony at the De Soto High School stadium. In this outdoor setting, we will be able to celebrate this occasion without the need for attendance limits or tickets. However, we are mindful of the unpredictability of weather, and if inclement conditions arise, we have an alternative plan in place. In the event that we need to move the ceremony indoors, it will be held in the Main Gymnasium at De Soto High School. In this case, we will need to limit attendance, and each student will be allocated 7 tickets to ensure their loved ones can be part of this special day. Rest assured, whether indoors or outdoors, the ceremony will be live-streamed so that everyone can participate, no matter where they are. The final decision on the location will be communicated to you 24 hours before the scheduled start of the ceremony.

A long-standing DHS tradition and a meaningful prelude to the ceremony, the gauntlet will begin at 5:30 p.m. The official commencement ceremony will begin at 6:00 p.m. This change in time to an evening ceremony has been made to accommodate our senior swimmers who will have the opportunity to participate in both the Kansas State Swim meet and graduation.

We are pleased to announce that Jostens will be providing our graduation regalia, announcements, and, our diplomas this year. To facilitate the ordering process, a representative from Jostens will meet with our senior class during seminar on Thursday, October 19th, to discuss graduation announcements and provide details on ordering caps, gowns, and stoles.

In closing, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of you for your support throughout your student’s academic journey. The Class of 2024 has shown incredible resilience and determination, and we look forward to celebrating their achievements with you on this day.

Thank you for entrusting us with your children's education, and we can't wait to witness the bright futures that await each and every one of our graduating seniors.

Sincerely,

Sam Ruff
